The City of Boise's fiscal year is October 1 - September 30.
The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) contains four main sections. The Introduction Section presents a financial overview of the City as well as the organizational chart. The Financial Section contains the Independent Auditors’ Report, Management’s Discussion and Analysis, Financial Statements, Notes to the Financial Statements and the underlining combination of fund financial statements with supporting schedules. The Statistical Section sets forth selected unaudited economic, financial trend and demographic information for the City with multiple years to assist with comparability. Lastly, the Single Audit Section contains the Schedule of Federal Financial Awards and Passenger Facility Charges as well as the Independent Auditors’ reports on Internal Controls and Compliance.
The City has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the last 14 years.

The Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) is created by the City of Boise. It is a brief summary of the financial position of the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) as well as the Periodic Financial Reports. The CAFR and Periodic Reports provide great detail of the City's finances while the purpose of the PAFR is to provide a brief overview.
The PAFR is intended to be user friendly and encourage the public to become more familiar with the financial state of the City. The City has high standards for financial accountability, a part of which is making easy-to-understand financial statements available to the citizens.
